Collective Co-Creation: Lu Yao’s Influence on Chen Zhongshi
(Abstract)
Xing Xiaoli
Chen Zhongshi and Lu Yao are two prominent representatives of realist literary creation in China’s new period. Observing the landscape and achievements of Shaanxi literature during this time, the two can be seen as towering figures of equal stature. From colleagues to coworkers, Chen frequently mentioned the influence of Lu on his writing. Firstly, Lu’s understanding and steadfast attitude towards realist creation methods reinforced Chen’s commitment to realism. Secondly, Lu’s work Life prompted Chen to more deeply consider the authenticity of realist literature. This mutual influence between writers constitutes a phenomenon of “collective co-creation,” with Chen noting that Lu’s influence on his creation was one of “destruction and rebirth,” a profoundly positive impact.
