The Shaanxi Experience in the Mainstream Tradition of Contemporary Chinese Literature

(Abstract)

Li Zhen

The Shaanxi experience, derived from Yan’an literary and artistic traditions, encapsulates the important practices of Shaanxi writers since that era. The Shaanxi experience was carried forward by the first generation of writers from Shaanxi, expanded by the second and third generations who focused on rural social and cultural changes, and has now been inherited by the fourth and fifth generations. The dislocation between the contemporary urban fashion culture and cyberspace, and the original colors of Shaanxi culture, does not lead to a “generational gap” or the loss of the Shaanxi experience. Instead, it may give birth to new literary groups in Shaanxi on the contemporary literary scene.
