Chinese translation of A History of Russian Literature
The Chinese translation of D.S. Mirsky’s A History of Russian Literature in two volumes was published this past January by People’s Literature Publishing House. The work was translated by Liu Wenfei, a part-time researcher at the Center for Russian Language, Literature and Culture Studies at Heilongjiang University and director of Russian Literature Laboratory of Institute of Foreign Literature at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Liu noted that Mirsky’s A History of Russian Literature has been a significant Slavic textbook in many famous Western universities for quite a long time and that it enjoys a high reputation among Slavic pedagogues. The famous author Vladimir Nabokov recommended the book as “the best history of Russian literature in any language, including Russian.” A History of Russian Literature consists of two volumes, From Its Beginnings to 1900 and Contemporary Russian Literature, 1881-1925. “Since Mirsky wrote the book as a guide for classes, the language is concise and the idea is original like a general history book,” Liu added. Sun Shufang, director of the Center for Russian Language, Literature and Culture Studies commented that publishing the Chinese translation of A History of Russian Literature will contribute to studies of Russian literature in China and reduce the knowledge gap for Chinese students.
