China Poverty Reduction and Development Institute established in Guiyang
The China Poverty Reduction and Development Institute inaugurated in Guiyang
On March 5th, the China Poverty Reduction and Development Institute was inaugurated in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. The institute was jointly established by the Poverty Alleviation and Development Office of Guizhou and Guizhou University of Finance and Economics. Wang Guoliang, deputy director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, and Chen Houyi, president of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics spoke at the signing ceremony and inauguration.
In his speech, Wang Guoliang stressed that Guizhou Province currently has the largest rural population living below the poverty line. The institute’s mission to help the poor is urgent, he emphasized, because otherwise the province will struggle to keep pace with national goal of building a moderately prosperous society. In articulating the institute’s vision, Wang Guoliang asserted that its emphasis will be on theoretical studies and systematic summary of poverty relief, and that the institution will aim to strengthen international exchange of ideas and knowhow in fighting poverty.
The Institute will play an active role in promoting research projects on regional development, development of poverty alleviation, cultural inheritance, industrial development, institutional change and performance evaluation for poverty alleviation measures and programs. It will complete a series of evaluation reports each year such as Report on Poverty Alleviation of Guizhou Province (Blue Book), Performance Evaluation Report on Poverty Alleviation through the Industries of Guizhou Province and Performance Evaluation Report on the Poverty Alleviation Special Fund of Guizhou Province.
