Seeking Balance between Popular and Professional Discourse—Centred on Douban Literary Criticism
(Abstract)
Long Qilin
Compared with other online literary criticism platforms or traditional literary criticism content directly uploaded by new media, Douban literary criticism seeks a balance between popular and professional discourse. It is characterized by the free, emotional and active online criticism of network users. The public can express their immediate feelings through short comments; there is also a mechanism for long comments of up to 10,000 words, which allows traditional criticism to have a larger audience on Douban. The in-depth integration of traditional literary criticism and online literary criticism requires mutual understanding and respect for the uniqueness of the criticism of the two, but more importantly, it is necessary to establish a platform for literary criticism that can accommodate popularity, entertainment, interactivity and commercialism, as well as professionalism, seriousness and authoritativeness, so as to enable the two to develop together in the process of the continuous integration of the new media.
