A Persistent Idealist: An Interpretation of Liang Xiaosheng’s Literary Works on the Educated Youth
(Abstract)
He Shaojun
As a writer, Liang Xiaosheng always holds high the spirit of idealism, which is particularly noticeable in his literary works on the educated youth. The important spiritual source of Liang Xiaosheng’s idealism is the Soviet-Russian literary classics, which endows his literary works with the eliticism-oriented spirit of tragedy. Concerning how to promote idealism when we confront with ever-growing material desires, Liang Xiaosheng has found the path to the civilian spirit, and has created the civilian ideal and idealized civilian. Written in 2018, Liang Xiaosheng’s new novel The Human World demonstrates his thorough confession and reflection on idealism. The intensified humanitarianism reflected in this novel marks the most accurate understanding of the affinity to the people.
