The Residential Environment Management Project in Seoul: community building in Whuekyung Village, Dongdaemun District (Abstract)

This paper describes the history of Residential Environment Management Projects of Seoul and the methodology of Residential Environment Management Project of Whuekyung Village in Seoul. Residential Management Policy has shifted from Urban Renewal to Residential Management since 1990 in Seoul. Owing to the changes of population structure, people have focused on the quality of life and residential environment. So Seoul has implemented various projects to regenerate community as well as a physical improvement of residential area. The Whuekyung village project has gone through the six stages. The most important element of this project is build and empower a community spirit in urban residential areas.
