Zhu Guangqian and the Construction of Modern Chinese Aesthetics
(Abstract)
Peng Lixun
Zhu Guangqian is one of the founders of the discipline of the aesthetic in modern China. He had pioneered the introduction of modern Western aesthetic methodology and constructed a research model for aesthetics centered on aesthetic experience in his half-century academic career. Through the integration of Chinese and Western aesthetic ideas, he established the first well-articulated theory of aesthetic psychology. He also raised a set of new analysis and interpretation of aesthetic experience and activities in the light of Marxist theory of ideology and practice. A critical examination of his scholarship is of significance for disciplinary construction of a modern aesthetic theory and discourse system with Chinese characteristics.
