Exploration, Choice, Transcendence: A Review of the Researches of Chinese Marxist Literary Theory in the Past Forty Years

Since the reform era, the social development and literary practices have continuously raised questions and challenges for the study of contemporary Marxist literary theory. Confronting with the dilemmas of aesthetics versus politics, thought versus scholarship, internal research versus external research, the independence of theory versus its practical aspect, the absorption of foreign theories versus our own construction of the discourse system of Chinese literary theory, contemporary Chinese Marxist literary theory studies have conducted kinds of explorations and selections actively. With the process of the Sinicization of Marxist literary theory, and after the process of the dialectical movement of the negation of negation, the contemporary Marxist literary theory studies have harvested fruitful theoretical results on a high level as a whole.
