Cultural Exploration and Spiritual Transcendence: On the Value Orientation of Zhang Wei’s Novel The Secret History of Aiyue Castle

Zhang Wei’s novel The Secret History of Aiyue Castle continues with his previous motif and has made breakthroughs in cultural exploration and spiritual transcendence, which includes making choices between capitalistic forces and culture protection, an unremitting exploration of life experience and spiritual perfection, a kind of consideration and grasping of the world of “things,” and a style of unscrupulous self-evaluating and self-deprecating. In addition, what supports the writer’s creation is not only Confucian culture but also the richness of Qi culture.
