Standards highlighted in scholarly publishing

On Oct.31, the seminar “Towards Further Enforcement of Scholarly Publishing Standards” organized by the General Administration of Press and Publication was held in Beijing. It is said the “Standards” will become very import criteria for various national programs, such as Chinese Government Award for Publishing, National Excellent Book Selection, National Major Publishing Projects, National Publishing Fund as well as the annual inspection and grading of publishers.
 
The reporter learned that the “Standards” has been incorporated into the “Notice Regarding Further Enforcement of Scholarly Publishing Standards” issued by General Administration of Press and Publication in September, 2012. Wu Shulin, Deputy Director of General Administration of Press and Publication, emphasized the significance of implementing scholarly publishing standards. He also suggested the regulations of the notice should be introduced into administrative standards so that to establish a strict rewarding and punishing system. Vocational training should include the contents of “scholarly publishing standards”. Wu also urged various sections and disciplines should make efforts together to regulate scholarly publishing.
 
Participates from 52 publishers, associations and administrative organizations attended the seminar. They agreed academic publishing organizations should take the major responsibility to establish scholarly ethic and academic standards. The seminar launched a statement to call for improving academic standards and try effort to publish high-quality scholarly works.
