The results of the Third Outstanding Achievement Awards for Macao Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, jointly sponsored by the Macao Foundation, Social Sciences in China Press and the GuangDong Social Sciences Association, were recently announced. A total of 56 publications were chosen by the selection committee for awards in monographs and papers. Within both of these categories, first class, second class, third class and mentions were awarded in four fields: economics and management; politics, law, journalism and sociology; history, philosophy and literature; and linguistics, education and arts. In total, the selection committee awarded four first prizes, five second prizes, eight third prizes and eleven mentions for monographs, and four first prizes, four second prizes, eight third prizes and twelve nominations in papers. Among the first prize recipients for monographs was Study on the Landscape Architecture and Green Space System Planning of Macau by Li Min, Li Weinong et al., and among the first prize recipients for papers was “Macao as an example of interactive development in the history of global civilization: the possibility of Macaology”, by Hao Yufan, Tang Kaijian, Zhu Shoutong, and Lin Guangzhi.

The awards have been held three times since their inception in 2004, covering a variety of fields and disciplines. The selection committee members were chosen by the event’s co-sponsors to reflect the disciplinary subcategories. Members came from both Macao academia and prominent universities and institutions in the Chinese mainland.

This is the first time that Social Science in China Press participated in the awards, which helped to expand the scale and impact of the event. The event received a positive response from the academic community after it was announced this April. A total of 395 submissions in Chinese, English and Portuguese were received from the Chinese mainland, Macao, Hong Kong and Taiwan—nearly 100 more submissions than the second awards.
