A Preliminary Study of the Construction of an Independent Sociological Knowledge System in China

It is the mission of the times for contemporary Chinese sociology to build an independent sociological knowledge system in China. The construction and development of China’s independent sociological knowledge system should, first of all, clarify the basic value orientation and methodological principles that should be followed, which is a major issue concerning the character of China’s sociological discipline. Secondly, there is a need to promote the development of an independent theoretical, historical, methodological and applied knowledge system on all fronts. Thirdly, it is necessary to cultivate Chinese sociology’s own academic authorities, produce its own masterpieces, form theoretical doctrines or schools of thought with Chinese ethos and style, and develop new and important academic concepts and categories that are widely recognized. In order to achieve these goals, the key is to be based on the contemporary issues of realizing Chinese-style modernization and building modern Chinese civilization, and to form a real problem consciousness belonging to sociology with Chinese characteristics, and to firmly grasp the pulse of the times and the direction of the development of Chinese sociology.
