Concepts and Research Paradigms of Urban Cultural Space and Its Practice

Urban cultural space is the focus of international social science research, as well as an important path to upgrade and transform metropolitan cities. We analyze the main topics and practice process of the research on urban cultural space from three aspects: related concepts, research paradigms of urban space, and its practice. Accompanied with the spatial turn of social science research, space takes on an unprecedented status. The concept of cultural space is mainly originated from the theories of Heidegger, Lefebvre and Bourdieu. Urban cultural space shows its nature of agglomeration, high integration and complexity, with a growing tendency of virtualization. The main research paradigms of cultural space include spatial positivism, behaviorism and humanism, and structuralism, etc. Learning the relevant research with its practice from urban cultural space, and constructing the theories and research paradigms of urban cultural space with Chinese characteristics are of great significance for promoting the current practice of urban cultural space.
