Cyberspace and the Genealogy of Literary Criticism

“Online literary criticism” has two meanings: literary criticism published on the Internet and criticism of online literature. Literary criticism published on the Internet creates an atmosphere of mutual excitement due to the superb speed of dissemination, and leads to the disappearance of the mechanism of defense. This situation rekindles the long-standing debate about experts, elitism, and popular appeal. The criticism of online literature shows that after the genre-based online literature shields itself from the logic of history, the literary criticism of close reading basically fails. However, “digital humanities” have opened up a new research space, and at the same time brought about some other issues that must be considered.
