The Intuitive Interpretation and Its Ideological Origin in Zhong Rong’s Shipin

As a representative poetics in the awakening era of literature in the Wei, Jin and Six dynasties, Zhong Rong’s Shipin, in the process of interpreting the five-character poems, begun to cast off the empirical framework of Confucian Classics interpretation in pre-Qin and Han, with intuitive thinking extensively applying. Thus, a series of approaches of interpretation have formed bearing the imprint of the times. These interpretation methods appears mainly in the form of direct comprehension without reasoning, thus could be regarded as the “intuitive interpretation,” with significant ideological value in broadening the self-awareness of scholars.
