An analysis of the role and function of AI in wars

AI has instigated the revolution of information technology in military affairs and cyber warfare. However, should technology be regarded as a mere substitute for military power? By reviewing “Prediction and Judgment: Why Artificial Intelligence Increases the Importance of Humans in War” published in International Security, the author discusses the contextual challenges faced by AI in the process of war strategic decision-making, as well as the difficulty and uncontrollable nature of its participation in prediction and judgment under the war environment. Meanwhile, the author looks at the processes and characteristics of AI in military decision-making, concluding that human play an important and indispensable role in wars.
