Emergence and Challenges of New Models of Cooperation Paradigm for International Development (Abstract)

Development aid led by the developed countries and the South-South cooperation paradigm advocated by the developing countries have profoundly influenced the state of international development in the mid-to late 20th century. With the advent of the 21st century and the rise of China and other nations with emerging economies, a new paradigm of international development cooperation has developed in which they are active participants. Under the new paradigm, inter-state relations, relations with domestic and international markets and public-private relations are distinct from the traditional paradigm. These adjustments have defined more clearly the relationship among participants in terms of responsibilities and rights and of benefits and risks, thereby increasing countries’ motivation to participate in development cooperation. Moreover, the new development cooperation model has had a significant positive influence on economic development. The new cooperation paradigm provides theoretical support and an empirical basis for China’s exploration of multiple development paths in the New Era’s South-South cooperation.
