The national strategy of construction of ecological civilisation and its implementation since 2012 has reshaped considerably the whole backdrop and the context of the practices of Chinese environmental governance today. The innovative jurisdictional institutions and mechanisms, such as the “Pilot Area of National Ecological Civilisation” in Fuzhou (a city in Jiangxi Province), show the way China governs environment under the overarching framework of systematic thinking, goals and an approach of the Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era. It indicates that the efforts would not only build up gradually modern capacities for a professional, efficient and concerted system of governance for the whole society, but also herald a series of institutional innovations and policies with ecological meaning and potential for the progress of socialism. Therefore, such a trend will not be reversed due to the disturbances of the Covid-19 in 2019-2020.
