For the Ultimate Dramatic Effect: On the Converse Conception of The Wilderness

The Wilderness is Cao Yu’s masterpiece of examining the complexity and cruelty of human nature. In order to achieve the ultimate dramatic effect, Cao Yu’s way of conceiving conflicts and describing characters shows the characteristics of converse conception different from the general realistic drama of that time and fully embodies the playwright’s creative personality and artistic talent.
