OCGS starts off technological innovation of social engineering
The Symposium on Qian Xuesen's Thoughts of Social Engineering (2013) was held in Beijing on July 27.
On July 27, the Symposium on Qian Xuesen’s Thoughts of Social Engineering (2013), co-sponsored by Journal of Renmin University of China and Beijing Society for Philosophy of Nature, Science and Technology, was held in Beijing. Huang Shunji, professor emeritus from the philosophy department of Renmin University of China, noted that the concepts and methods articulated by the Chinese rocket scientist Qian Xuesen in his theory of open complex giant system (OCGS) are also applicable to the engineering of social systems. Practice has shown that the corresponding method of “meta-synthesis from qualitative to quantitative” is an effective way for conceiving of OCGS, Huang said, elaborating that this approach can be used to combine testimony from experts, information from databases, and computer systems in analyzing and solving the complicated issues in a social system.
