The symposium for the publication of the History of China series was held in Beijing on January 6th. Organized by the Chinese Academy of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and published by Social Sciences Academic Press, the series provides a comprehensive recount of Chinese history that engages both popular audiences and serious readers of history.

The voluminous series will be published in batches, and the publishers anticipate publishing over one thousand books in total. The first batch includes two hundred titles covering twelve series that introduce the history, development and social progress of Chinese civilization from ancient to modern and contemporary China. Aspects covered in these twelve series include politics, economics, military science, philosophy, history, literature, arts, science and technology, cuisine, clothing and apparel, transportation, architecture, etiquette, social development and diplomatic relations. Each book contains approximately 100 thousand words.

Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President and Secretary of the Party Group of CASS of CASS Chen Kuiyuan serves as the editorial board director for the series, which is guided by dozens of well-known historians from CASS and written by hundreds of famous scholars and experts from CASS and other institutions.

In his preface to History of China, Chen Kuiyan wrote that the series aims to provide a comprehensive and accurate introduction to Chinese history and traditional culture for popular audiences.  The editors hope that, in the era of information, the timeless cultural communication embodied in these volumes will enable people to understand themselves and each other better, overcoming their shortcomings by learning from others. Through the cultural transmission made possible by the series, China is able to keep its inherent qualities and characteristics, ceaselessly striving for perfection and cultivating virtue while building tolerance for the ever more culturally diverse world.

Chen Kuiyuan attended the symposium. Wang Weiguang, vice chairman and deputy Party secretary of CASS and Wu Shulin, vice minister of the General Administration of Press and Publication gave the series’ publication unveiling.
