the 2012 rankings of Chinese universities by subject
On January 29th, The Ministry of Education’s China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) released the 2012 rankings of Chinese universities by subject. The evaluation spanned 95 academic disciplines, for which 75% of the top five programs in each category were state-supported “national key disciplines.” Additionally, universities targeted in the 1998 education initiative Project 985 accounted for 73% of the top five programs in each discipline, while those included in Project 211 accounted for 84%.

The rankings are based on disciplines in the Directory of Degree Granting and Personnel Training, published in 2011 by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and Ministry of Education. The CDGDC also conducted comprehensive evaluations of doctorate and master’s degree granting programs and carried out a disciplinary development analysis based on the evaluation results.
