Chinese literati look to Kafka

Franz Kafka (1883-1924), a pioneer of Modern Western literature, has exerted profound influence on Chinese literature and culture since his works were first introduced to China in 1923. Having just passed his 130th birthday, four prominent Chinese Kafka scholars take the chance to reflect on Kafka’s legacy in China, examining how his unique style and expressive techniques have influenced later generations of Chinese authors, and how academics have reacted to his legacy.
