Xi’s ‘Governance’ discussed in New Delhi

A symposium on Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was held during the 24th World Book Fair of New Delhi in the capital of India on Jan. 10.


The symposium’s organizers included China’s State Council Information Office, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), the Chinese Embassy in India, and the China International Publishing Group.
 

Sun Shoushan, deputy director of the SARFT, said that the book has set a record for circulation at home and abroad, surpassing all volumes authored by previous Chinese leaders since reform and opening up.


The book allows the international community to obtain a comprehensive, objective and rational perspective on contemporary China, Sun added.
 

Chinese Ambassador to India Le Yucheng expressed his belief that the book will be a bond to enhance China-India exchanges and help Indian readers to better understand and recognize China. 
The multilingual book was a bestseller in China in 2015, indicating the level of global attention being paid to the rapid development of China and the style, charm of the Chinese leader, said Lu Cairong, deputy director of the China International Publishing Group.

 

Citing his long diplomatic career in China, Venu Rajamony, press secretary to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, said he has deeply felt that China is the country India needs to know about the most. There is an urgent need for the Indian public to learn about China, he added.


Some Indian politicians and scholars said the book is essential reading for anyone interested in Chinese politics and the future of the country. 
 

Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was edited by the State Council Information Office in collaboration with the Party Literature Research Center of the CPC Central Committee and the China International Publishing Group.
 

Unveiled in September 2014, it was published in simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean and Vietnamese. The book is a compilation of Xi’s major works from November 2012 to June 2014. It includes speeches, talks, interviews, instructions and correspondences. The 79 items are arranged in 18 chapters.
 

After its publication, the book appeared in many major international book fairs, earning wide acclaim in the international book market, mainstream global media and among scholars overseas. Currently, the book has been launched in more than 100 countries and regions, with a global circulation of 5.37 million copies.
