Vietnam has benefited from its relationship with China. However, the recent US visit of Nguyễn Phú Trọng, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, indicates that Vietnam is willing to help the US contain China in return for aid. This reflects Vietnam’s mentality of having more than one iron in the fire.
