Index of Chinese book citations published
Results of the Chinese Book Citation Index are unveiled in Beijing on July 22.
A news conference about the project results of the Chinese Book Citation Index was held in Beijing on July 22.
Wu Shulin, standing vice-president of the Chinese Publishers Association, said that this project represents a breakthrough for academia and publishers and that people in these two fields should be more enthusiastic in order to promote academic research with knowledge products and academic evaluation.
Shen Guchao, a professor at Nanjing University, gave an overview of the progress of this project and published relevant data of the first batch of included books at the conference. He said that the index database not only serves a national need for citation tools but also has a positive influence on research, planning and administrative decision-making in academia. It enables publishers to keep tabs on academic progress and organize contribution sources while encouraging the development, market expansion and globalization of digital academic resources, he said.
The index is a joint initiative of Nanjing University and the Chinese Publishers Association and is intended to build a public welfare service platform of humanities and social sciences literature data. This database plans to cover all subjects in humanities and social sciences.
The completed part includes academic books that have been selected according to strict standards and procedures, including more than 3,000 kinds of monographs in 11 subjects published since 1992, and all chapters and references of these books have been included and indexed in extenso. It is expected that more than 10,000 kinds of books will be included when all the subjects are covered at the end of 2016.
