The Flesh, Bone and Soul of Our Village: A Discussion on Qiao Ye’s Baoshui Village

Qiao Ye’s novel Baoshui Village is considered as an important work in recent years in the writing wave of realistic fictions. The use of Henan dialect and oral style of writing in this novel endows its ontological feature of linguistic fictions; at the same time, Baoshui Village presents an atlas of abundant group portraits and typical characters in the rural villages in the new era. The way that main characters lead the appearance of derived characters has also organized a narrative structure of the novel itself. In addition, Baoshui Village, from the perspective of a female writer, delivers delicate and subtle and rich layered insight and expression on humor.
