Social Integration of the Children of Japanese War Orphans: An Analysis of Immigrants to Japan since the Late 1990s
(Abstract)
Zhang Longlong
Based on 29 in-depth interviews and various documents, this study examines the social integration of the children of Japanese war orphans, who immigrated to Japan from China since the late 1990s. Since the late 1990s, Japan’s economy has deteriorated and the labor market has continued to shrink. In this social context, the employment of the “children” was extremely difficult due to their high age and insufficient understanding of Japanese. Although they have settled in Japan for 20 years, they continue to live at the bottom of the social ladder.
