Mini-Narratives of “Places Created by Immigrants”: A Discussion Based on Auto-Ethnography
(Abstract)
Liu Hao
In recent years, there has been increasing attention on the education of the second generation of immigrants in Japan and a large volume of academic research on the topic has been accumulated. Especially, ethnic institutions (churches, ethnic schools, etc.) have drawn considerable attention as educational resources because “places created by immigrants” affect the character development and academic achievement of the second generation. In this report, I used the auto-ethnography method. I pointed out that, for the second generation, the places created by immigrants are “ambivalent places,” which means they are associated with both negative and positive aspects of personal growth.
