The Growth through Reflection of the History of Foreign Historiography
(Abstract)
Chen Heng
The history of historiography is not only a study of historians, historical writings, schools of history and historical thought, but also the reproduction of the specific meaning of intellectual history, academic history and the history of ideas, which deserve to be examined from different perspectives. Studying and researching the history of historiography helps to develop the ability to collect, collate and compile historical materials, enhances historical thinking skills, and allows us to understand the changes in historical codification and thought and the way they reflect the times, which in turn allows us to experience the development of human civilization and social progress. In recent decades, the history of foreign historiography in China has made considerable progress, especially in the in-depth historical study of the historiography of major Western countries, and many textbooks have been compiled. However, the study of non-Western countries has not yet attracted sufficient attention; the translation, collation and study of primary documents are still far from meeting the needs of academic development, and compilation of the relevant tools is almost a blank. All this prompts us to think about how to promote the study of the history of foreign historiography in China in further depth.
