On Zhu Guangqian’s Translation of “Yixiang” from the Perspective of World Aesthetics
(Abstract)
Cao Qian
Zhu Guangqian examined the concept of “yixiang” from the perspective of world aesthetics. He translated yixiang in three main aspects: representation; image; and idea and ideal. We can see from Zhu’s translation that, although the meaning of yixiang in his aesthetic view sometimes slightly changes in terms of signifier, his understanding of the concept of “yixiang” still has a relatively stable meaning orientation. In general, Zhu Guangqian’s understanding of “yixiang” and its translation reflect his keen grasp of the concept of “yixiang” and related Western aesthetic concepts. This serves as important reference to our current in-depth discussion of the connotation of “yixiang” as a basic aesthetic category.
