Wang Hua’s “New Change”: Reading the Novel Dalou Mountain

As a themed novel about poverty alleviation, Dalou Mountain has dealt with the relationship between the clear theme and artistic expression in a proper way. It is a result of accumulation and natural extension of Wang Hua’s 20plus years of literary creation. As a writer of the Gelao nationality in Guizhou province, Wang familiarizes with the life deep in the mountains of Yunnan and Guizhou areas and bears sincere feelings for the mountains, rivers, and the villagers there. This is one of the prerequisites for her to complete highquality creations on the theme of poverty alleviation. As well, an equally important or even more important condition is how she presents her familiar life and sincere emotion in an artistic manner. Without the success of the latter, Dalou Mountain wouldn’t have been so enchanting.
