On the Characteristics of Science Fiction Realism

Science fiction realism has become an influential term and creative trend in Chinese science fiction community. Science fiction realism has three important characteristics: first, it expresses shocking experiences, shows the astonishing beauty of technology, and combines the exploration of the universe with the reflection on human nature; second, it uses metaphors to gain insight into the social changes brought about by technology, deeply intervenes in reality, and issues warnings about civilization; third, focusing on the relationship between technology and human beings, it transcends anthropocentrism and ponders the ultimate meaning of “human being” from a post-human perspective.
