Dignity, Transactional Transformation and Labor Organization Governance: An Interpretation of Foxconn
(Abstract)
Wang Hejian
Taking the incidents of Foxconn as an example, this article probes into the issue of labor organization governance, examining the interplay of dignity and transactional transformation as well as their impact on structural change in labor organization governance. The research results reveal that the gap between recognizing and obtaining dignity can trigger protective actions such as quitting, appeals and suicide of staff within the organization; the continuous increase in staff’s specific human capital caused by labor transactions will widen the gap between demand and supply of dignity within the organization, thus speeding up the change in its governance structure; entrepreneurs’ cognition and their strategic game of “structural autonomy” in the global production chain are of great importance to the “transformation-transition” of labor organization governance structure.
