Urbanization of the population is the base on which the “New-type” urbanization promoted by China could be carried out, but for the rural people in reality to become urbanized, it is essential for them to find proper jobs. The study has the following findings through an analysis of the data from the 5 databanks of Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) for years: 1) the people living in the cities but with rural hukou are increasing rapidly; 2) among the urban residents with urban hukou and those with rural hukou, the ratios of the three categories, “with full-time-job”, “with part-time-job” and “jobless”, varies in their distribution in different classes of cities; 3) the working time of the urban residents with rural hukou is longer than those with urban hukou, but their incomes are close. Although different natures of hukou, classes of cities and levels of education are three core variables having influences on work and income, as the multivariate analysis the author conducts shows, the influence of hukou has decreased to be the weakest. Does the finding imply the migrants from rural areas have been integrated into cities basically or the exclusiveness of the hukou system is dissolving in the dimension of work?
