Constancy and Variability: A Study on the “Change” of Ba Jin’s State Concept
(Abstract)
Zhou Limin
Ba Jin’s anarchist belief largely affected his recognition of the state. After the outbreak of the all-round Anti-Japanese War, Ba Jin’s state concept had changed obviously, but it had not deviated from his anarchist belief. He not only identified with the country in reality, but also tried to transcend the national discourse to find the way to realize his faith. By investigating the evolution of Ba Jin’s state concept, we can examine the difficult choices and heavy mental course of the generation of intellectuals in the belief and reality, the ideal and the environment, the individual and the times.
