The Human World: Standpoint of Folk Ethics and Epic Writing

(Abstract)

Wang Chunlin

Liang Xiaosheng’s novel The Human World is an excellent literary work which presents the overall development and evolution of Chinese society in nearly half a century from multiple, multi-layer and three-dimensional perspectives. The success of the novel lies in the creation of a radiating umbrella-shaped artistic structure centered on the three siblings, namely Zhou Bingkun, Zhou Bingyi and Zhou Rong. On the other hand, while adhering to the narrative standpoint of folk ethics, the novel forms an epic ideological and artistic character.
