Reflections on Zhou Zuoren Studies

(Abstract)

Wang Shu, Ma Limin and Wang Tongyao

The picture of Zhou Zuoren’s thinking of literary creation is complex. Studies on him involve many fields, generating rich and complicated academic papers, monographs, biographies, etc. However, since the 1980s, there has been a tendency to undiscriminately elevate Zhou Zuoren’s achievement, and evade the problems and limitations of Zhou Zuoren. It lacks value judgment and rational thinking in terms of literary and intellectual history, but the voices of criticism are still very weak. To this end, we invited several scholars to share their reflections raised from different angles in the hope of recovering the original aspect of this problem.
