(Abstract)

Some of Fan Xiaoqing’s short stories demonstrate the changes of “worldly affairs” and “public feelings” (shitai renxin) caused by the change in urban-rural relationship in the new century. The subtle observation of the world and her deep appreciation of human sentiment show the social changes, the embarrassment and warmth in ordinary people’s lives. Fan’s writing can be traced back to the tradition of the story of worldly affairs in Chinese literature and has an important significance of literary history.
