Delusions of war must never be reprised

From the battlefields
To the tunnels underground,
The invaders were blind to the fact
That people’s war knows no bounds.
Equipped with “millet and rifles,”
An army was drawn from the ranks.
And it held its own against the bombs and tanks.
But today, aircraft and artillery
Bear witness to China’s rise.
And the delusions of war,
Must never be reprised.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War. On Sept. 3, the Victory Day of the War of Resistance, Beijing hosted a grand military parade in Tiananmen Square. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech and inspected troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. As President Xi reiterated, the aim of the commemoration is to bear history in mind, honor all those who laid down their lives, cherish peace and look ahead to the future. In the interest of peace, China will remain committed to peaceful development, uphold the outcomes of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War, and make greater contribution to mankind. Let us bear in mind the great truth of history: Justice will prevail! Peace will prevail! The people will prevail!
