Civilizational Modernity: The Historical Form of Chinese Modernization

(Abstract)

Xiang Jiuyu

Modernity is nurtured within a particular civilizational context; it does not emerge in isolation from material production. Civilizational modernity, as a conceptual identifier, provides a historical framework for understanding modernity by delving into the domain where historical necessity and diversity converge to define the historical forms of modernization. The quest for Chinese path to modernization has undergone a historical transformation from “utensilsystemculturecivilization,” marking a progressively deepening historical process. The Communist Party of China adheres to the “two combinations,” advancing modernization from the heights of civilization and leading the Chinese people on the Chinese path to modernization. The historical possibility of Chinese-style modernization lies in its alignment with the historical principles of human and socialist civilizational development, while simultaneously adhering to the historical demands of the modern transformation of Chinese civilization.
