Global Legal History from a Chinese Standpoint: A Cross-Civilizational Dialogue

(Abstract)

Li Fupeng

The examination of global legal history from a Chinese standpoint endeavors to facilitate a cross-civilizational dialogue aimed at gradually rectifying the modern Western-dominated mechanisms and discourses of legal knowledge production, thereby expanding the historical and contemporary global legal space based on Chinese law. This Chinese paradigm serves not only as a supplementary perspective, helping to unveil the distinctive traits, mechanisms, and continuity of the Chinese legal tradition in the historical process of civilizational exchange but also carries the era’s mission of fostering cross-civilizational dialogue. It addresses the common loss of voice in the Global South and, with an autonomous Chinese legal scholarly system, contributes to global thought on Chinese law for a human community with a shared future.
