Chinese Logic of Common Prosperity

(Abstract)

In China, common prosperity has profound historical and cultural implications as well as distinct logic of societal system. As a societal ideal, it embodies the long-standing intellectual pursuit of the Chinese people. The concept of community, represented by the love of family and nation and the view that all people are my brothers and sisters and all things are my companions, has profoundly shaped the inner world of the Chinese people. As a fundamental principle, it allows the measurement of labor, which is the essential attribute of the socialist system, to be firmly implemented and demonstrated in the practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics. As a realistic practice, the concept conforms to historical laws while taking the initiative. The collective strength fueled by the advanced nature of the Communist Party of China and the scientific nature of policies and strategies makes the road map for common prosperity increasingly visible. As a Chinese plan, common prosperity builds up a genuine community against a backdrop of diversity and differentiation, depicts a scientific outlook on prosperity in the course of development, and contributes a national model for building a new form of human civilization in the pursuit of modernization. China’s historical practice of promoting common prosperity not only expands the epochal understanding of “common” in the philosophical sense, but also marks the heights of “prosperity” in the civilizational sense.
