Nagasaki was once the center of Japan’s economic and cultural exchange with overseas countries. The economic and cultural activities conducted by early Chinese migrants in Nagasaki contributed significantly towards the rapid growth of local economy and culture, and laid a solid foundation for the gradual assimilation of Chinese migrant into the host society. Historically the Chinese culture accepted in Nagasaki has become a unique cultural tourism resource and made important contributions to the revitalization of regional economic development. This paper will explore the historical process of how Chinese culture was accepted, developed and created by the local society, and also became the unique regional culture of Nagasaki today, through the Chinese culture represented in Nagasaki Chinatown.
