The Move of the Study of Capital towards Cultural Sociology: A Trend Analysis of the Evolution of Marx’s View of Capital

Marx’s theory of capital has multiple connotations such as philosophy, political economy and sociology, and contains potentials that can be extended and expanded at various levels. Depending on his theory of labor value, Marx’s theory of capital holds that the transformation of labor into a commodity is the decisive condition for the transformation of money into capital, and the statement about “virtual capital” to a certain extent signals the trend of capitalist economic development from substantial to fictitious. While inspiring sociological thinking on capital, the theory also sparks many discussions and debates.
